Couch to 5k – W3D1 (take 2)
Posted: September 22nd, 2009 | Author: Mark | Filed under: Training | 4 Comments »Restarted Week 3 this morning, and it was much easier than last week.
I only had to break a running break during the last 3 min bit, and I think that’s mainly because I was running along a main road at the point and the fumes got to me.
So, next time I’ll just stick to the park until I finish the running bits.
I’ve also been concentrating on my form, which I think is helping with my endurance – and I can see my main issue is with my lung capacity (running along main roads doesn’t help, especially when buses and vans go past).
I was glad to find your post today. I did my couch to 5k training last summer. Sunday will be the culmination of 5k-10 training and–I’ll be lucky to do it in an hour and a half. I’m on the Roman Legion plan right now run 6 minutes, walk 2 minutes. Like you if I could achieve a 60 minute 10 k I think I probably would aim for more, it would just make running 5ks 3-4x a week seem doable. Good luck with your goals.
I think about a year ago I was pretty much where you are now. When I started running, last June, I was about 16 stone (too scared to weigh myself), pretty heavy for my height! When I did my first 10km last september, I was about 14.5st but I did it in 64mins. So far this summer I’ve done three 10km’s and a half marathon. I did my last two 10km races in around 55mins (one just over, one just under). Oh.. as for the weight, last time I weighed myself I was around 12st 9lds. Have fun!!!
Stick with it. Just don’t overdo it in the early days. Meantime, I thought you might be interested in reading this piece about a sportscaster who’s work has been transformed by becoming a marathoner:

Hello again Mark, Just a quick note to see how you’re doing. Have you looked into foam rolling to improve flexibility. The reason I ask is that we recently submitted an article to running Fitness magazine providing the top 10 stretches, and most of the ones we provided were foam rolling. If you go to our website, we sell them and also have a chart to help you on your way. Hope you’re training well, Mitchell StrideUK
